You have not, for you ask not!: The Coat

When I was considering moving to the Northeast in 2020 to pursue my Master’s degree, I was resisting this opportunity because of the harsh winters here. Growing up in Haiti, I have always enjoyed warm temperatures. When I moved to the United States a couple of years ago, I moved to North Caroline and quite frankly, winter in North Carolina was enough for me so the thought of going to the Northeast felt daunting. Yet, the invitation from the Lord was clear. So in August 2020, I packed my car and left North Carolina for another adventure.

But quickly after my arrival, it started to cool down. I had enjoyed the colors of the leaves changing, but it was getting colder and I knew that winter would be here in a heartbeat. In November, my friend Sarah sent me a text asking me to send her my new address and my size while warning me not to buy a coat. Without protesting, I sent her the address. Within a short time, a package  arrived at my doorsteps. It was a beautiful black, long coat. In no time, it was in use. It was exactly what I needed without knowing it.

But how did this coat arrive at my doorsteps in the first place? I later found out from Sarah that her mother had asked her if her daughter needed a coat that winter. Since her daughter was all set, my friend Sarah proceeded to tell her mother that she knew a friend of hers who lives in the Northeast who could take advantage of that coat. Since her mother does not like the cold as well, she decided to gift me a coat. It was such a generous gesture from her but looking back it was as if the Lord was telling me that not only He could provide for me; but He would not send me to missionary territory without the necessary tools.

Four years later, I am still living in the Northeast and I can say that this coat has been a tremendous gift to me. I am not sure what I would have done without it and for that I am eternally grateful. Every time I see it, I can be reminded of a Father who always takes care of me even when I don’t dare ask!

So my Dear One, what do you need? Where have you been resisting God’s invitation? What do you want Him to do for you? The Good Shepherd wants to provide for you.  Be not afraid to ask Him and let Him surprise you!

See you in the Eucharist,

Sourire

P.S:To my dear friend S.T. and to K.D: Thank you for reminding me of God’s faithfulness in the mission field.
